During the WWDC21 keynote, Apple previewed a new Safari look alongside macOS 12 Monterey. Now, four months after beta testing started, the RC version of the software comes with a more traditional Safari look. If you remember, Apple introduced a new streamlined tab bar that was designed to take up less room on the page, as well as to adjust to match the colors of each site, extending your web page to the edge of the window....

A new report from The Information today dives into Apple’s ongoing efforts to develop “search capabilities that might compete head-on with Google’s.” As part of those efforts, Apple acquired an AI news startup called Laserlike in 2018, which was founded by a group of Google engineers. Today’s report, however, says Laserlike’s founders have returned to Google… Laserlike cofounder Srinivasan Venkatachary had taken the role of senior director for Apple’s search team, helping manage at least 200 employees....

The first references to “Pro Mode” were found in macOS Catalina 10.15.3. Internal macOS code described this option as something to make apps run faster, while also warning about reduced battery life and increased fan noise. This feature was never made available to users, and all references were removed from macOS Monterey beta – until now. While there are no details on how exactly High Power Mode works, we assume it will force the CPU and GPU to run at their peak performance regardless of whether the Mac is connected to power or not....

Today, a new report from The Globe and Mail in Canada says that Apple is threatening to pull out of its planned development for a new flagship retail store. According to the report, Apple had signed a lease for more than 15,000 square feet of retail space in the development, but is now threatening to back out over construction delays. The building that is currently under construction is said to be the “tallest residential building” in Canada with an 85-story design....

Apple has reportedly been working on its own virtual universe as the company also has plans to introduce a new mixed reality headset. And, following a statement from Mark Zuckerberg saying that the metaverse should be “open” as a criticism of Apple, the company’s VP of Worldwide Marketing Greg Joswiak said during an interview with WSJ that he will never use the word “metaverse.” Apple’s VP pokes at Facebook about the metaverse Joswiak and Apple’s VP of Software Craig Federighi were interviewed by journalist Joanna Stern on Tuesday at the WSJ Tech Live event....

James Wan offers up a look at his underwater action scenes in Aquaman. After a rather tumultuous year in 2017, Warner Bros. is hoping their lone 2018 DC film can help right the DCEU once again. That’s at least how one producer believes Aquaman is shaping up and it’s easy to see why. They’ve allotted Furious 7 director James Wan creative freedom to flesh out Jason Momoa’s rocker version of Arthur Curry in the character’s solo film....

Aquaman has officially passed Wonder Woman at the worldwide box office, becoming the second highest-grossing film in the DCEU, when not accounting for inflation. This milestone comes just 12 days after Aquaman’s domestic release, and a little over a month after its release in key foreign markets. While Aquaman received only mildly positive reviews from critics when it released, audiences have embraced DC’s latest sea-faring adventure film, directed by James Wan and starring Jason Momoa....

After a long period of uncertainty, a February 2018 premiere date has been confirmed for Ash vs. Evil Dead season 3. A post from the official Twitter account of the hit horror/comedy TV series states the time and the place when ‘The Chosen One’ will return to Starz - and as suspected by many loyal fans, it isn’t going to be during the remaining months of 2017. The uber-gory series was developed by Sam Raimi, Ivan Raimi, and Tom Spezialy for the Starz network, with season 1 airing in October 2015....

The Hulk is reportedly going to don a brand new armor in Avengers 4. The green raging monster was a no-show in Avengers: Infinity War, despite promo shots and trailers clearly featuring him during the final act battle in Wakanda. Instead, Bruce Banner was relegated to using the Hulkbuster to somehow help his friends battle the legion of Outriders. As the two’s three-film arc that started in Thor: Ragnarok comes to a close in MCU’s Phase 3 capper, the tease of a major breakthrough in their love/hate relationship is keeping fans of the character hyped up, despite there being no signs of a Hulk solo film happening in the near future....

Zack Snyder crowns Ben Affleck as the “perfect Batman” in brand new images. Kicking off Warner Bros.’ own superhero franchise via 2013’s Man of Steel, the filmmaker went on to direct Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice three years after which marked the debut of Affleck as the latest version of the Caped Crusader. The two collaborated again last year in 2017’s Justice League, although the theatrical cut of the film was reportedly reshot extensively by Joss Whedon....

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is out today with some new predictions on how Apple can continue to reduce its reliance on China. According to Kuo, Apple is adjusting its “supply chain management strategy” in response to the ongoing “de-globalization trend.” Based on recent supply chain surveys, here’s what Kuo predicts… The changes include shifting more iPhone production to India, as well as moving more MacBook production and assembly to Thailand. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has voted to charge Broadcom with an antitrust complaint today for “illegally monopolizing markets for semiconductor components.” Specifically, the charge is related to Broadcom chips used in set-top boxes and broadband internet devices. The FTC shared all the details about the antitrust complaint against Broadcom in a press release today: The FTC charge alleges several findings with the main one being Broadcom acting as an illegal monopoly through the sale of “three types of semiconductor components, or chips, used in devices that deliver television and broadband internet services....

As we explained in our original report on Monday, third-party applications that rely on cloud infrastructure for syncing and other tasks have faced numerous issues over the last several months. These issues oftentimes resulted in an error message reading “Service unavailable” citing that the “Request failed with HTTP Status Code 503.” Apple briefly elaborated that the errors typically occur when request-throttling kicks in for a specific user, but a bug was seemingly impacting this safeguard that resulted in a higher-than-usual number of errors....
