Apple is continuing to grow its international content ambitions. Today, Variety announced a first-look deal between Apple and AR Content, the production company led by Academy Award nominated producer and directory Alexander Rodynansky. AR Content will produce Russian-language and multilingual shows for Apple TV+. Rodnyansky says Apple is the first global streaming platform to form a strategic partnership with a Russian production company. The Apple TV+ slate is currently dominated by US and Canadian content, almost exclusively in English....

The Apple TV app is taking a page out of the playbook of other streaming services and pushing “Featured” content over the more useful “Up Next” aggregation. With a change rolling out starting today, the first thing you’ll see when you open the TV app is a dedicated row for “Featured” content… This new dedicated row for “Featured” content replaces the new previous top-level row for “Up Next.” The Up Next row aggregates the next episodes of TV shows you’re watching from any app that integrates with the TV app, which is essentially any streaming service app other than Netflix....

Not unlike Batman in the Dark Knight trilogy, Aquaman has ended up becoming the film that DC needs, but not necessarily what it deserves. After a somewhat bumpy start - mostly critically rather than financially - to the DCEU, with films like Man of Steel, Suicide Squad, and Justice League, Aquaman may well be a launching pad for the future of the franchise. If you watched the Aquaman trailer and thought it all looked a bit familiar, you’re not alone. The first big screen outing for Arthur Curry is the start of a new, post-Justice League era for the DCEU, yet it bears a striking resemblance to Marvel’s 2018 release Black Panther. Contextually, Black Panther and Aquaman already have quite a bit in common before we get to the content of their movies. They’re well known comic book characters yet have rather small dedicated readerships (at least compared to their publishing counterparts), and were both introduced on the big screen as part of bigger ensemble movies within their shared universe (Captain America: Civil War and Justice League respectively) that teased their homeworlds (Wakanda and Atlantis) before it was explored properly a year or two later....

Arrival is a smart tale of alien contact that boasts great visuals and performances, if also more brains than heart. Human activity on Earth comes to a standstill when, one day, mysterious extraterrestrial spacecrafts appear and set down around the globe. Dr. Louise Banks (Amy Adams), a linguistics expert, and mathematician Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner) are among those recruited by U.S. Army Colonel Weber (Forest Whitaker) to approach one such spacecraft that has “landed” in Montana, in the hopes of making contact with the aliens and finding out 1) The reason they have come to Earth and 2) What their intentions are, now that they have arrived....

The trailer for Assassin’s Creed has finally landed! The movie, set to debut in December, was directed by Justin Kurzel (Macbeth) and stars Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch, a convict who is sentenced to death but rescued from execution by Abstergo Industries. The modern day front for the Templars, Abstergo is interested in unlocking Callum’s genetic memory and forcing him to relive the memories of his ancestor, a 15th century Assassin called Aguilar who operated during the Spanish Inquisition....

Ubisoft has released a new live-action trailer to promote Assassin’s Creed: Origins, which shows off some of the ways the player character can assassinate their targets in ancient Egypt. As the tenth major installment in the popular franchise, Assassin’s Creed: Origins takes players further back than ever by placing the game’s story in ancient Egypt. Players take control of an Assassin named Bayek, accompanied by an eagle, as he explores a rich, open-world environment....

Avengers: Infinity War star Sebastian Stan appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America, and posted a photo from the show’s set of himself posing with a toy replica of the Infinity Gauntlet. The appearance was to promote Avengers: Infinity War and a new children’s charity initiative called Marvel: Universe Unites. Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes aka. the Winter Soldier, posted a video on Instagram of him flexing a toy version of the Infinity Gauntlet - one of the key artifacts wielded by the cosmic villain Thanos in Infinity War....

Avengers: Infinity War is 10 years (and 18 movies) in the making, pitting Earth’s Mightiest Heroes against the universes’s most capable enemy, Thanos. Heroes have risen and fallen, villains have come, gone, and changed allegiances, and audiences have yet to feel exhausted by the sheer magnitude of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s ambitious undertaking. There’s a year between Avengers: Infinity War and the release of next year’s Avengers 4, and that means Marvel’s stars have plenty of time to unwittingly spoil the film. Pitch Perfect 3 is the farewell tour for the Bellas, as they propose one last competition before wholeheartedly committing themselves to post collegiate life....

Early reactions for Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man and The Wasp are now online. The upcoming film is a sequel to Reed’s 2015 film Ant-Man, which introduced Paul Rudd’s titular superhero Scott Lang into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne, aka the Wasp. While the first movie focused primarily on Lang’s journey and him becoming the shrinking-superhero, the sequel takes the story in a different direction by making Lilly’s Wasp a starring character and telling a story that will connect directly to Avengers 4....

Apple has begun the trademark application process for a variety of ‘reality’ names, as it prepares to introduce its first augmented reality headset device. Bloomberg reports that companies linked to Apple have applied for names including ‘Reality One’, ‘Reality Pro’ and ‘Reality Processor’. Do not expect the headset to appear as part of the iPhone 14 event on September 7 however. The latest rumors generally point to a product launch of the headset early in 2023....

Apple is rolling out a notable update to the Apple Developer application for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Today’s update brings the app to version 9.3, and it includes accessibility improvements, sorting improvements, and system-wide picture-in-picture support.
