Alita: Battle Angel gets the Honest Trailers treatment in a new video. Hollywood, to put it mildly, doesn’t have a good track record when it comes to turning anime and/or manga properties into live-action films, as evidenced by the unflattering responses to recent adaptations like Paramount’s Ghost in the Shell and Netflix’s Death Note alone. And while the Wachowskis’ Speed Racer certainly has its fans, many would argue that this year’s Alita: Battle Angel was the first such manga adaptation that could truly be considered a success....

The first trailer for Robert Rodriguez’ Alita Battle Angel is coming tomorrow, but the first footage is already here. Studios are starting to adapt more and more manga/anime series for the big screen, and Alita marks the next attempt. Based on the Japanese manga of the same name by Yukito Kishiro, the live-action take will star Maze Runner’s Rosa Salazar. She will play the lead role of Alita, a female cyborg that lives in the distant future....

Apple has announced new ways it plans to support the United States National Park Foundation this year. From August 8, the company will donate $10 for every Apple Pay purchase made on Apple.com, in the Apple Store app, and at Apple retail stores… Apple made the announcement in a press release published Monday morning. Multiple reports have been suggesting in recent months that Apple is interested in acquiring the rights to stream NFL games. While nothing has been confirmed, a new report from Puck News corroborates that a deal between Apple and the NFL is closer than ever while Apple is already looking at other future deals. The report mentions that Tim Cook and Eddy Cue (respectively Apple CEO and Apple’s head of services) met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell during the Sun Valley Conference last weekend....

Aquaman is getting an extended release over in China. The DCEU franchise has experienced mixed fortunes in its lifespan, with Wonder Woman proving both critically and commercially successful, Suicide Squad raking in cash but taking a battering in reviews and Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice disappointing across the board. As such, no one was completely sure what to expect from James Wan’s Aquaman, especially after the character received a lukewarm reception following his franchise debut in last year’s Justice League....

Abby Ryder Fortson, the actress who portrays Cassie Lang in Ant-Man & The Wasp, has teased that her character will eventually become Stature in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It looks like Marvel has big plans to add another superhero to its lineup of characters that will appear beyond its current phase. In Marvel Comics, Cassie is the daughter of Scott Lang. Ant-Man and The Wasp director Peyton Reed denies reports that the upcoming film will be a comic book romantic comedy. Marvel Studios has been testing the waters with various types of movies over the years so that their cinematic universe doesn’t feel too repetitive. For instance, Anthony and Joe Russos’ Captain America: The Winter Soldier was billed as being a political thriller, whereas Jon Watts’ Spider-Man: Homecoming was aiming for a John Hughes-esque coming of age theme - and both films ended up working out....
