Aquaman has officially passed Venom, Thor: Ragnarok and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 at the global box office, continuing its hot streak since its release late last year. This adds to the film’s long list of milestones after it recently helped Warner Bros. achieve its highest box office numbers ever in 2018. Aquaman, the first standalone effort featuring the character and starring Jason Momoa in the title role, has made tidal waves at the box office thus far, recently passing 2017’s Wonder Woman to become the second highest DC Extended Universe film released to date....

When a movie has the sort of unprecedented success that Deadpool has had – now the highest grossing R-rated comic book film of all time – it’s bound to start a trend. What exactly that trend will be remains to be seen, but we and others – including Guardians of the Galaxy director, James Gunn – hope the trend is more superhero movies that are original and willing to take risks, and not movies that are rated R simply for the sake of it....

While many will argue that the book is always better than the show or film, there are plenty of examples that can be enjoyed on both levels, and Neil Gaiman’s American Gods is a prime example. Both the book and the Starz show are incredible pieces of art and entertainment that work as standalone features, but they definitely have their differences. It’s true that some TV adaptations seem to hurt the original material, and that sometimes a book isn’t as compelling as part of its show....

Ant-Man & The Wasp will fully explore the Quantum Realm and fans should keep their eyes peeled for some Easter eggs peppered throughout the alternate dimension that could offer clues about the sub-series’ and the MCU’s future. Directed by Peyton Reed, Marvel Studios is closing out their year by going small - both literally and figuratively with the Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lily-led sequel. That said, don’t be fooled, the film may tackle a smaller, self-contained story but it’ll apparently have some significant links to the bigger franchise....

Apple is always looking to diversify its suppliers; this helps to improve existing technologies and make them less expensive. This time, TCL’s subsidiary CSOT wants to enter Apple’s LCD supply chain for upcoming Macs and iPads. According to a report by The Elec, TCL chairman Li Dongsheng is expected to visit Apple Park very soon. He wants to win the supply orders for LCD panels made by CSOT for iPads and MacBooks....

Apple employee activism is shifting the balance of power within the company, suggests a report today. It says that more employees are willing to speak out about issues which concern them – such as pay disparity – and feel more protected than they have in the past. The evidence presented is mixed, but it does indicate there has been at least some shift in the culture of secrecy at the company …...

Apple is taking down iTunes. The company’s long-running media player, media library, internet broadcaster and mobile device application has been around since 2001, and was one of the backbones of the brand’s entertainment ecosystem. Solely focusing on music when it debuted, the app expanded to include videos and eventually podcasts and e-books to keep up with the changing landscape when it comes to how people consume media. It’s both available on MacOS and Windows operating systems, and was initially mandatory for installing software updates for iOS devices....

Apple on Wednesday announced a new partnership with TAFE Queensland, one of Australia’s most popular training providers and the largest in the state of Queensland. Together, Apple and TAFE will offer development classes using the Swift programming language. To encourage students to obtain programming skills, Apple will provide all the necessary resources for TAFE Queensland to offer training programs for iOS app development using Swift. According to Apple, the program will officially launch in October 2021....

Early iPhone 13 sales saw Apple’s market share of the smartphone market climb in both the US and Europe, but growth was reportedly much more dramatic in the latter – where the company came very close to overtaking Xiaomi. iPhone growth was more modest in the US, despite the very favorable timings, but that was of course from a much higher base … We’ve previously explained why the timings flatter Apple’s calendar Q3 sales....

Jason Momoa has confirmed that Aquaman will gives fans exactly what they want: people riding sharks. When an Aquaman solo movie was first announced a few years back, reception was mixed. While the character has lots of fans, there were those who still worried that he wouldn’t quite be able to carry his own live-action film. The casting of Jason Momoa and assurances from Aquaman director James Wan, however, seemed to point towards an interpretation of the character that will win audiences over....

James Cameron reveals the main cast of the Avatar sequels has officially wrapped production on the multi-film endeavor. Ever the perfectionist, the Oscar-winning director took his time developing followups to his 2009 epic sci-fi hit. By the time Avatar 2 debuts in theaters, 11 years will have passed since the premiere of the original, which was hailed as a revolutionary game changer for visual effects. As is par for the course with Cameron, he’s looking to take things to the next level with the sequels, and the first will explore the underwater worlds of Pandora....

Avengers: Infinity War writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely pick Thor’s Wakandan entrance as the shot they knew would always be part of the movie’s final cut. Boarding the MCU in 2008, the writing partners were initially tapped to pen Captain America: The First Avenger, but they have since then gone on to write four more movies in the franchise - the last two Captain America sequels, Avengers 3, as well as next year’s Avengers 4....

Avengers 4 has reportedly added Ty Simpkins, who played Harley Keener in Iron Man 3, to the cast. As if the still-untitled Russo Brothers project is not already jampacked with characters, Marvel may have added another supporting character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the bunch - presumably to further Tony Stark’s personal story arc in the movie. The young actor is best remembered for his role as Harley Keener in Iron Man 3, Robert Downey Jr’s last standalone film as Iron Man....

A new parody for the first Black Mirror movie Bandersnatch takes the adventure to a restaurant setting. Black Mirror has been making people feel uneasy and rethink their daily lives since 2011, but Black Mirror: Bandersnatch has changed the game with an innovative choose-your-own adventure-style film. While TV shows often branch off into actual feature-length films, Bandersnatch was unique as it gave viewers the option to pick their own adventure. This meant that when a character came to a decision that had to be made, two choices would pop up on the screen, allowing the viewer to ultimately change the plot of the movie with a click of their remote....

Alpine is out today at CES with its next-gen multimedia receivers for automobiles. The new 11 and 9-inch Halo Floating Touchscreen Receivers include support for wired and wireless CarPlay/Android Auto as well as compatibility with Lossless hi-res audio. Update 1/6: Alpine has also announced new weather-resistant receivers for the Jeep Wrangler. Both of the new Alpine High-Resolution Jeep Receivers are 9-inch models and come with the upgraded wireless CarPlay and support for hi-res Lossless audio....

The exec who was the Apple exposure notification lead when he headed up the company’s strategic health initiatives has described his frustrations with attempting to persuade governments to adopt the technology. He says that the situation in the US remains a mess today, and that the single biggest missed opportunity was a federal exposure notification app … Myoung Cha was Apple’s head of health strategic initiatives at the time the joint Apple/Google exposure notification API was created....
