There is much hype surrounding the live-action Beauty and the Beast movie, set to open in March 2017. Of the many delights of Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man was arguably the peak. Gamers who have been keenly looking forward to playing BioWare’s upcoming multiplayer action role-playing game Anthem now have the opportunity to sign up for the Closed Alpha, which will run from December 8-9, 2018 across four separate three-hour sessions. The deadline to register is the end of day on December 3, and requires an EA account. Anthem will be something of a departure from the kind of role-playing games that BioWare fans are used to....

Now everyone can add posts and comments to custom categories made by users. In the run to receive another Oscar nominee, Apple and Netflix are among the streaming services willing to spend big money on Jennifer Lawrence’s new film. As reported by Variety, Apple and Netflix have been circling Jennifer Lawrence and Paolo Sorrentino’s film about Sue Mengers, a legendary super-agent “who donned a caftan like a suit of armor and wielded a joint like a mace while trying to get the best deal possible for her A-list clients....

A relatively simple change to the iPhone setup process would mean Apple could keep kids safe from social media apps, along with any other apps that shouldn’t be used by children. The suggestion comes from a somewhat ironic source – Facebook’s former head of security… Alex Stamos, now director of the Stanford Internet Observatory, says apps themselves struggle to stop kids from using them. It’s no use asking their birthdate during app setup, as kids can obviously just put in a fake date....

Russia has apparently demanded that Apple store user iCloud data relating to Russian citizens domestically. Apple has seemingly refused to comply, based on an Interfax news report (via Reuters). The court fined Apple 2 million roubles (worth approximately $34,000) for non-compliance. Russian courts have increasingly clashed with (predominantly US-based) big tech companies over issues of content censorship and data control in the months since the country invaded Ukraine. Whilst Apple has seemingly not complied with Russia’s will to have user data physically located inside its borders, it has been willing to work with China to do something similar....

The Redwood City-based firm has published hits like Apex Legends, Madden, and The Sims franchise. The idea for a buyout or merger came after Microsoft purchased Activision Blizzard for $68 billion earlier this year. Shortly after, Sony purchased Bungie, the studio behind Destiny for $3.6 billion. According to Puck, EA ideally would like a merger so Andrew Wilson can remain CEO of the combined company. EA’s roots actually go back to Apple....

Apple has been upgrading its Podcasts platform as the iOS 15.5 RC revealed a new option to limit episodes stored on your devices as well as changes arriving to help podcasters better present the value of annual subscriptions. Now Apple Podcasts has announced its new “Delegated Delivery” service that will allow creators to “upload, manage, and distribute their premium audio through participating third-party hosting providers.” Apple announced the news in a press release today sharing details on the new option for podcasters along with a launch date of this fall....

Director James Wan criticized the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for failing to recognize Aquaman’s impressive CG work after it has failed to be included in this year’s Oscars VFX shortlist. Starring Jason Momoa, the latest DCEU movie introduces fans to the half-human/half-Atlantean hero, divided into two parts - on the surface world and the underwater world. The film was also tasked with introducing Atlantis, presenting technical challenges in bringing the underwater civilization to life....

The CW is set to expand its DC Comics television universe soon with the premiere of Legends of Tomorrow, a spinoff featuring characters that were introduced on Arrow and The Flash. However, before it debuts, both Arrow and The Flash will return from their winter breaks after having left viewers on emotional cliffhangers. The latest word from Sony holds confirmation that the PlayStation 5 is currently in development - and one industry insider is willing to bet that consumers can expect an official release date in 2019. Since launching in 2013, the current generation PlayStation 4 console has served considerably well as the successor to the PlayStation 3 from 2006. Praised from its inception by critics and third-party studios for its superior capabilities over the competing Xbox One at Microsoft, Sony’s release of the PS4 handily topped global console sales by 2016 with 53 million units sold around the world....

Like many pop culture consumers this week, President Barack Obama took stock of the films he’d seen this past year and released a list of his favorites; the list of 15 films included the top-grossing movie of the year: Black Panther. Marvel’s comic book adaptation is no stranger to year-end best of lists. It was also named as one of the best films of the year by the American Film Institute and is even garnering serious awards buzz ­- most recently earning a Golden Globe nomination for Best Drama in the motion picture category and 12 nominations from the Critic’s Choice Awards, which is no small feat for a superhero flick....

While the status of the various Robins in the DC Extended Universe is uncertain, it seems highly unlikely that a comics-accurate version of Batman’s younger partners will be featured on the big screen any time soon. The existence of a Robin in that universe has been already confirmed, with Bruce Wayne briefly looking at a display case containing a graffiti-covered Robin costume in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and it was later implied in Suicide Squad that Harley Quinn was involved in Robin’s death at the hands of The Joker, but no story has been provided outside those teases....

Moviegoers are just a few short weeks from seeing Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (as of this writing), the film that will set the DC Extended Universe into motion and pave the way for the cinematic Justice League. Anticipation is at an all-time high, as fans dissect TV spots, trailers, and merchandise to figure out if the film will live up to the hype. Superman himself, Henry Cavill, claims that the final product is “thrilling,” but many are awaiting the first wave of professional critic reviews to get an idea of what to expect....
