iOS 16.1 is currently available in beta testing and includes support for the Live Activities API, which allows developers to add real-time notifications to the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island. In the latest edition of the Power On newsletter, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman reports that Apple has lost another manager from its Project Titan self-driving car team. This is only the latest departure in what has been a revolving door environment for Apple. According to Gurman, Joe Bass, who was the head of software engineering program management for Apple’s car team has recently left the company after seven years. Bass confirmed this change on in his LinkedIn page....

App developer and former Pinterest engineer Kosta Eleftheriou became well known after exposing multiple issues with Apple’s App Store, including million-dollar scams by sketchy developers. Eleftheriou filed a lawsuit against Apple last year, but now the developer and company have reached an agreement to settle the lawsuit. This year’s annual Arrowverse crossover will not include Legends of Tomorrow. Instead, the crossover, which will introduce Gotham City and Batwoman, will only incorporate Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl. Like the recently announced Batwoman TV series, Legends of Tomorrow began as an Arrowverse crossover event. “Heroes Join Forces” in 2015 provided the setup for the main story behind season 1 of Legends of Tomorrow. Production has officially wrapped on Warner Bros.’ Annabelle 3, the latest addition to The Conjuring universe and the fourth spin-off in the supernatural franchise. Since The Conjuring’s initial release, the universe has been pushing out films nearly every year. Annabelle has been one of the more terrifying entities to spawn from the series, and 2014 saw the doll receive its own stand-alone film. And while that film wasn’t well received it did get a sequel in 2017’s Annabelle: Creation, which was regarded as the series’ first good spin-off....

Avengers: Infinity War is surprisingly the most human Marvel film yet, Anthony Mackie says. Next month, Marvel Studios is debuting their most ambitious undertaking yet, as they begin the culmination of everything that has transpired in the successful franchise, with the Joe and Anthony Russo-directed flick. Infinity War is perhaps the biggest blockbuster film ever (at least until Avengers 4), pitting around 76 characters against one mighty villain in Thanos. Apex Legends cheaters may be getting more than they bargained for, as developer Respawn Entertainment says it’s implemented a system that detects cheaters and forces them into matches together. That’s added to a slew of other anti-cheat measures Respawn has in development or already in the game to combat Apex Legends’ longstanding cheating problem. Cheating has been a problem since the early days of the game, and Respawn has aggressively worked to root out the culprits....

Apple last week closed some of its retail stores in the US and Canada due to the spread of the new COVID-19 variant.
