Via Deadline, Apple TV+ has struck an overall deal with Playtone, the production company headed by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman. Under the exclusive deal, Playtone will make new scripted and unscripted television series for Apple’s streaming service. Deadline also mentions that a sequel to the popular Apple TV+ film Greyhound is in development. Apple has seen strong success with Tom Hanks’ vehicles Greyhound and Finch, premiering in 2020 and 2021 respectively....

Apple has renewed its long-running non-fiction original Carpool Karaoke: The Series for a fifth season. The show was one of Apple’s first forays into original content, before the TV+ division had been set up, alongside the quickly-cancelled Planet of the Apps. Up to now, the series has been branded as hailing from Apple Music video department and made available via the Apple Music and Apple TV apps. Starting with season five, it will now be branded as an Apple TV+ original series and appear alongside Apple’s other flagship premium titles....

Apple has announced this morning that it has selected 15 Black- and Brown-owned businesses for a “first-of-its-kind Impact Accelerator.” This program is part of Apple’s Racial Equity and Justice Initiative, and it will help “combat systemic barriers to opportunity, while also advancing innovative solutions for communities most impacted by climate change.” Apple says the 15 businesses chosen for the program are all based in the United States. They are all focused on innovation in energy efficiency, solar, green chemistry, recycling, and other environmental areas....

Apple is set to dig deeper into its popular “Mythic Quest” TV+ show with a new companion series titled “Mere Mortals.” Reported by Variety, the spinoff comes from the minds of three “Mythic Quest” writers. Variety has learned that Apple has ordered an eight-episode series of the new “Mere Mortals” show that’s written by Ashly Burch, John Howell Harris, and Katie McElhenney. Burch will also continue her role as Rachel from Mythic Quest in the spinoff....

Assassin’s Creed will be the first movie released by Ubisoft Motion Pictures, based on Ubisoft’s popular sci-fi/historical adventure video game series of the same name. When we visited the set of Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther in February 2017 we spoke with most of the cast and crew leads but missed out on chatting with Danai Gurira due to scheduling. Fortunately, in June 2017 Screen Rant traveled to Atlanta again to visit the set of Avengers: Infinity War and observed a key sequence that takes place in Wakanda. Annabelle summons all manner of demons and evil spirits in the second trailer for The Conjuring mid-quel, Annabelle Comes Home. After starring in a pair of prequels that explored her backstory, the eponymous evil doll is back with a third spinoff, which picks up shortly after the original Conjuring’s prologue.
