Apple TV+ continues to grow The numbers make it clear that the traditional streaming platforms have been losing ground to new platforms introduced in the last three years. Back in March, JustWatch reported that the global market share of the Apple TV+ had reached 5.6%. Interestingly, HBO Max continues with the same 7% share since then. Of course, there’s more than one reason why the numbers are like this. When it comes to Apple TV+, the platform has been gaining traction as Apple’s original movies and shows have already won multiple awards....

One of Apple’s biggest suppliers is ramping up production to fund six new projects – one of which being wearable devices. It seems Luxshare Precision Industry Company, based in China, may soon be diving into Apple Watch production. As reported by Reuters, Luxshare is raising up to 13.5 billion yuan ($2.13 billion) to fund these new endeavors. In a filing to the Shenzhen stock exchange, the Chinese manufacturer seeks to “improve the company’s production capacity in downstream applications such as consumer electronics and smart vehicles....

Apple has just announced during its “California Streaming” event a brand new generation of the iPad mini. The smallest iPad in the lineup now comes with a design language that’s similar to that of last year’s iPad Air, with slimmer bezels and no Home Button. Just as with last year’s iPad Air, the iPad mini doesn’t feature Face ID, but a Touch ID sensor in the sleep/wake button, allowing the user to unlock the device, as well as authenticate within apps and authorize purchases with their fingerprint....

Apple is out with a new press release and report today in which it again touts the success of third-party apps on the App Store. The study, which was conducted by the Analysis Group and funded by Apple, concludes that “third-party apps experience broad regional and global success on the App Store.” Interestingly, however, Apple is taking the strategy of downplaying the success of its own, first-party apps… Apple highlights a few conclusions from the report:...

Apple has quietly made a big change to Apple Music this week, reducing the initial free-trial offer from three months. The three-month free trial helped set Apple Music apart from competitors like Spotify when it initially launched in 2015, but the service is now offering the industry-standard of one month free. The reduction in the free-trial period applies to all countries in which Apple Music is available. The service is available in over 150 countries worldwide....

Apple (AAPL) has officially reported its earnings for fiscal Q1 2022, covering the months of October, November, and December (aka calendar Q4). This is Apple’s ever-important holiday quarter, and it reported a revenue record of $123.95 billion, up 11% year over year. The company reported profit of $34.6 billion and earnings per share of $2.10. Analysts had high expectations for Apple’s holiday quarter, predicting a record revenue and profit. It’s important to note that Apple itself had warned that it would be negatively impacted by supply constraints during the holiday quarter, but it appears to have weathered that storm quite well....

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, a handful of studies have set out to determine whether wearables such as the Apple Watch can detect early signs and symptoms of COVID-19. A new paper published today in the journal JAMA Network Open highlights that wearables like the Apple Watch and Fitbits could also provide data on the long-term effects of COVID-19. As reported first by the New York Times, the new data comes from the Digital Engagement and Tracking for Early Control and Treatment (DETECT) trial run by scientists at the Scripps Research Translational Institute in California....

Batman: The Killing Joke is one of the most brutal comics in Batman’s long history. It helped usher in a darker, more disturbing take on The Joker that continued all the way through Heath Ledger’s character in The Dark Knight and, if the trailers are any indication, Jared Leto’s performance in Suicide Squad as well. With an animated movie adaptation of the comic on the way, one of the big questions is if it will be as dark and violent as its source material, or if it will pull its punches to appeal to a broader audience....
