After the surprise success of Deadpool last week, we can properly say that 2016 is the year of the superhero movie - with Captain America: Civil War, X-Men: Apocalypse, Suicide Squad, and Doctor Strange all coming up later this year. Of course, the biggest one from Camp DC is Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, which will see DC’s two biggest superheroes of all-time going mano y mano for two-and-a-half hours (or so)....

The latest trailer for Alita: Battle Angel is set to arrive on Monday. The cyberpunk action film from director Robert Rodriguez and producer James Cameron is due out during the crowded December 21 release window. Its competition includes James Wan’s Aquaman and the Transformers spinoff Bumblebee. Alita is skipping Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con this week. Instead, Fox held a scavenger hunt to give out tickets to a presentation in the Regal Theater Horton Plaza....

Apple and a number of other companies have filed a brief with the United States Supreme Court in support of affirmative action programs being challenged at some universities. Apple and the other companies say “diverse groups make better decisions.” As explained by Bloomberg, the Supreme Court is set to rule on a pair of affirmative action cases. These will mark the first affirmative action cases since conservatives gained a 6-3 majority on the Supreme Court....

Apple on Tuesday announced the winners of the 2021 Apple Music Award, which is an annual award that chooses the best artists who have excelled with their songs during the year. The third Apple Music Award names The Weeknd as Artist of the Year, while Olivia Rodrigo, H.E.R., and Wizkid are also on the list. The Canadian R&B and pop singer The Weeknd has been chosen Artist of the Year as Apple says he “took over popular music and culture on his own terms....

First spotted by Engadget, Apple listed Thumper: Pocket Edition as the next big title coming to its gaming service. Selling for $4.99 on the App Store, Thumper is almost sure to be a hit on Apple Arcade. Apple today began promoting its online services through “exclusive offers” to Apple Card users in the United States. Users have been noticing a new section in the Wallet app that offers special deals related to Apple’s own services for Apple credit cardholders. Apple on Monday released iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5 to the public following the release of the RC build last week. The update doesn’t bring significant changes, but it does improve the Apple Cash and Podcasts app. iOS 15.5 new features Apple says that iOS 15.5 makes enhancements to Apple Cash, with support for more easily requesting and sending money from the Apple Cash card in the Wallet app. There’s also a new feature in Apple Podcasts to help preserve your iPhone’s storage space and some bug fixes for HomeKit....

Aquaman’s first trailer debuted during Warner Bros.’ Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Co 2018 and was released online soon after, but the overall response to the trailer was mixed, so one fan already created a remixed version that ends up being better than the real thing. The trailer that WB released online is not the only Aquaman trailer that was screened at the convention, but the second trailer shown during the panel remains a Comic-Con exclusive....

According to a new interview, Dolph Lundgren’s character in Aquaman will undergo one major change from his comic book counterpart. The King of Atlantis’ solo movie will debut amongst a crowded field of box office challengers when it releases in December. And because it will be the first DCEU film since the critical and commercial disappointment that was Justice League, it actually has a lot riding on its shoulders. Arnold Schwarzenegger still plans to reprise his star-making role as Conan the Barbarian one more time on the big screen. The project in question, which has thus far been known as The Legend of Conan, would be a direct sequel to the 1982 Conan movie adaptation (as directed by John Milius) that largely ignores the 1984 sequel Conan the Destroyer and has no connection at all to the 2011 Conan the Barbarian reboot starring Jason Momoa - thus fulfilling the promise of the final scene in Milius’ film, where Schwarzenegger as an old and bearded Conan is shown as a king, sitting on his throne....

Rene Ramirez opens up about the backlash that Wild Dog’s new suit got from the character’s co-creator, Terry Beatty, saying that while he understands where the comic book artist is coming from, he is quite pleased with the garb upgrade in the current outing of Arrow. Fans have been waiting for Battle Angel for years. James Cameron was developing the film, but the overwhelming success of Avatar shifted his attention to developing that film’s multiple sequels instead. Cameron finally stepped back from the director’s chair last year, allowing Robert Rodriguez to take over so that the movie might finally get some forward momentum. Just last month, it was reported that the list of possible stars had been narrowed down to three names, Zendaya, Rosa Salazar, and It Follows star Maika Monroe....

Universal Pictures has tapped writer Jay Basu to rewrite the script for its Battlestar Galactica film reboot. Red Sparrow director Francis Lawrence has signed on to helm the feature, which has been in the works since 2009. Glen Larson’s original 1978 series has already spawned a spin-off, Galactica 1980, and of course Ron Moore’s seminal 2004 reboot. While the influence of the original remains strong, Moore’s four-season series reached far more mainstream popularity and spawned its own (albeit short-lived) spin-offs in Caprica and the web series Blood and Chrome....
