In his latest entry of the Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple’s iCloud, Health, and AI teams are seeing an increase in departures. According to the report, two big names just departed from Apple: Emily Fox, in charge of Health AI research, is departing for a university position starting later this year, and Ruslan Meshenberg, who was a leader on Apple’s cloud infrastructure team after serving as a Netflix VP, just left for Google....

Apple has released a new lighthearted ad for Apple Card today highlighting the ability to apply and use the credit card in just “minutes.” The commercial is set in a grocery store where a person walks up to the register with a partially eaten candy bar before realizing he has no way to pay for it. The new “Chocolate” ad is just over 30 seconds and shows a scene of funny moves performed by a man at the counter with a chocolate bar in his mouth looking for money....

Batman is yet to appear in the Arrowverse, but could that be because Bruce Wayne’s retired - or worse? Gotham answers will surely come now that Batwoman is coming to the Arrowverse. The character will be introduced in this year’s Arrowverse crossover event, which will also reveal the DCTV version of Gotham City. The crossover will also serve as a back-door pilot for Caroline Dries’s Batwoman TV show. Dries is no stranger to DCTV; she’s worked with them before on Smallville....

Austin Powers director Jay Roach doubts that a fourth film will happen. The Austin Powers franchise has been a hugely successful one for comedian Mike Myers, who’s played the titular role three times now, with the last time having been in 2002’s Goldmember. Though there’s been three films to date, the franchise’s financial peak came in 1999 with the follow-up to Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me....

While Star Trek and its spinoffs have set the gold standard for science-fiction shows in general, there are others that are arguably just as good. One such example is Babylon 5, which ran for five seasons during the mid-90s and has gained a cult following over the years. Update: Apple has today extended this patent with additional claims, which Patently Apple suggests is intended to better protect the invention. This doesn’t necessarily make it more likely that Apple will implement additional gestures, but it seemed a plausible possibility at the time, and the update certainly indicates continued interest by the company. There could be more Apple Pencil gestures in store for future generations of the company’s iPad stylus. Following the public release of macOS 12.4 with support for the first Studio Display webcam fix and over 50 security updates, Apple has released the first macOS 12.5 beta with WWDC just a few weeks away. macOS 12.5 beta 1 is now available via OTA for developers already enrolled in the beta as well as being available soon from Apple’s Developer website. Apple sales in Turkey have resumed after the company suspended them due to a currency crash in the country. However, local prices have been increased by 25% to reflect the devaluation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar. Apple suspended sales from the local online store, and there have been conflicting reports that it also turned people away from retail stores … MacReports said that the company did so, while a local reader tells us that this isn’t the case and that the long lines seen at stores are not unusual....

After updating the iWork suite, Apple is also bringing the Apple Support app to version 4.6. Business Insider featured an interesting article today with some soundbits and tidbits from Hollywood agents working with Apple, and sources inside the content arm of Apple TV+. Despite easily being the most resourced company financially, the Insider article suggests that Apple TV+ content division is understaffed, or perhaps more generously experiencing growing pains, leading to rollout issues of new content. The report says that Apple’s TV infrastructure is generally under-developed with various issues cropping up, including disruptive last-minute marketing plans such as not having press materials ready in time for a new show launch....

The final trailer for James Wan’s Aquaman has been released, with Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry facing his destiny to become the King of Atlantis - and perhaps even something more. The film marks the first DC Extended Universe release since last year’s Justice League, so fan anticipation is naturally high. Though it’s set after the events of Justice League, Aquaman will also be an origin story - exploring Arthur’s early life as the child of the Atlantean Queen Atlanna (Nicole Kidman) and a mortal man (Temuera Morrison)....
